What is a Digital Aerial? There is no such thing as a 'Digital Aerial'. When we refer to digital aerials on our site and literature we are referring to an aerial which is designed to receive the digital signal. In some UK areas a wideband or high gain aerial upgrade may be needed to receive Freeview digital terrestrial TV. This is because the DTT multiplex channels (DVB-T multiplexes) in some regions are broadcast on different UHF frequencies to existing analogue channels requiring the use of a wideband aerial. If you have an older TV aerial, it is possible that the type of aerial fitted was designed just to receive a narrow group of existing analogue TV channels. Such an aerial will give poor reception (at best) if the digital TV channels in your area are outside the frequencies that the existing aerial was designed to receive. Digital Switchover Starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, TV services in the UK will go completely Digital. This process is called the Digital Switchover. The UK’s old television broadcast signal known as analogue is being switched off and replaced with a digital signal. Any TV set that is not converted to digital when the switchover takes place will no longer receive TV programmes. You can easily convert your TV sets by adding a Freeview set top box to each TV or upgrade your televisions to a more modern Freeview integrated set. A digital aerial will then enable your set to receive the best signal and channels available. The big switchover from Analogue TV to Digital TV will be happening in the London and Anglia areas during 2011 and 2012 however you can act now and get the most out of your Freeview or Digital TV by upgrading your analogue aerial to a CAI standard digital aerial.
